Roy Stanford Mitchell’s World War II Service

Roy Stanford Mitchell served with C Company, 47th Armored Infantry Battalion, during World War II. Trained as an anti-tank crewman and later serving as a radio operator and light mortar crewman, he supported combat operations from France and Luxembourg into Germany, including the brutal fighting in the Hürtgen Forest.

Pictured here is Roy’s granddaughter, who joined her siblings in giving their father this Service Memorial for Father’s Day. The gift preserves their grandfather’s World War II story and gives their family a lasting record of the experiences and sacrifices behind his service.
