Nelson Matt’s
World War II Service
Nelson Matt served as a paratrooper with Company A, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, fighting to liberate the Philippines. He took part in airborne and amphibious assaults on Mindoro, Corregidor and Negros, endured intense combat, and was wounded twice in action, earning two Purple Hearts during the final campaigns against Japan.
Nelson Matt’s Service Memorial
Nelson Matt’s son (left), and his grandson (right) received a powerful Christmas surprise when they were presented with his Service Memorial. Until then, the family knew very little about Nelson Matt’s wartime service. Through this memorial, his story is now preserved, understood and proudly shared across generations.
